Animal health and welfare

The achievement of high welfare standards is paramount throughout the whole production chain: on the farm, during transport and finally at the abattoir.

For generations, it has been of the utmost importance to SEGES to improve animal welfare, health and food safety. Our experts constantly strive to identify new and improved ways of farming.

This focused, ongoing work on the part of SEGES has resulted in Denmark and Danish farmers being known and recognised worldwide for their great animal health and high animal welfare standards.

Our experts train farm advisers and farmers for improving animal health and welfare. Our tools and training enable farmers to implement best practices on their farms.

Authorities and private companies all over the world engage with our experts when they want to raise animal welfare, animal health and food safety standards to new levels. We also work directly with farmers and farmworkers to improve farming results.

Danish animal welfare standards are based on a mix of statutory requirements and several independently monitored industry assurance schemes, all of which underpin the high standards of animal husbandry in Denmark. New regulations and legislation are implemented rapidly at farm level due to the close partnership between public authorities and the industry as well as an efficient information and advisory system; with SEGES as the go between.

SEGES proactively informs and trains farm advisers and farmers in health management. SEGES also runs several health promotional activities on behalf of Danish authorities.
