SEGES contributes to lower environmental impact of farming

From 1990 to 2017, Danish farmers’ agricultural output increased by 35% while climate gas emissions decreased by 16%. From 1990 to1997, annual nitrogen loss from farming in Denmark to coast water was cut by 37%, the phosphorus excess went down 62% and ammonia loss was reduced by 42%.

SEGES has been instrumental to farmers achieving these results. We have developed and shared best practices, new methods, and new technology, leading to improved breeding, feed optimisation, better varieties, improved cultivation techniques and improved manure handling. In this way, SEGES has contributed significantly to ensure a lower environmental impact per unit produced, which has led to a reduced environmental impact overall.
